Yani Clarke is a documentary art photographer based in Lismore, Northern Rivers, New South Wales, Australia, on Bundjalung Country. Her work focuses on uncovering raw, untold stories from society's margins. With a poetic yet unflinching approach, Yani captures resilience, hardship, and transformation. Her evocative photography has earned critical acclaim, with Bruce Gilden praising her ability to "tell the entire story of a person's life in a single image."
Her photographs have been published in VICE, F-Stop Magazine, Empty Kingdom, and Pearl Press. She was a semi-finalist for the Head On Portrait Prize and the Maggie Diaz Photography Prize for Women (2016) and was nominated for the World Press Photo Joop Swart Masterclass (2016 & 2018). In 2024, she was a finalist for both the Perth Centre for Photography Award and Women Street Photographers. Her work will be exhibited at the Sรฃo Paulo Photo Festival and Paranapiacaba Photo Festival in Brazil (2025), and she will present her series LUCKY ROCKET at the Head On Photo Festival in November 2025.
