Yani Clarke is a documentary art photographer based in Lismore, Northern Rivers, New South Wales, Australia, on Bundjalung Country. Her work focuses on uncovering raw, untold stories from society's margins. With a poetic yet unflinching approach, Yani captures resilience, hardship, and transformation. Her evocative photography has earned critical acclaim, with Bruce Gilden praising her ability to "tell the entire story of a person's life in a single image."
Her photographs have been published in VICE, F-Stop Magazine, Empty Kingdom, and Pearl Press. She was a semi-finalist for the Head On Portrait Prize and the Maggie Diaz Photography Prize for Women (2016) and was nominated for the World Press Photo Joop Swart Masterclass (2016 & 2018). In 2024, she was a finalist for both the Perth Centre for Photography Award and Women Street Photographers. Her work will be exhibited at the SΓ£o Paulo Photo Festival and Paranapiacaba Photo Festival in Brazil (2025), and she will present her series LUCKY ROCKET at the Head On Photo Festival in November 2025.
