Your death is written in history. So is mine. Is this alarming to you? Should it be? Before spending almost every waking moment surrounded by death here at Pashupatinath, it hardly crossed my mind. Death was illusory concept always experienced by others.
There is a new wave of thinking focusing on mindfulness. Yet it should really be called mind-full-less...Mindfullness is the belief of being mindful of your intentions and not attaching to your thoughts as things which define you. Mindfulness meditation is an adaptation of Buddhist vipassanāmeditation in which practitioners learn to be mindful, "the intentional, accepting and non-judgmental focus of one's attention on the emotions, thoughts and sensations occurring in the present moment."
I feel this is the most powerful thing we can do in our own lives. We need to stop filling our mind with thoughts and more on fully living in each moment. Although this is so much easier said than done because it means breaking years of your own ingrained behavioural patterns as well as ones deeply embedded into our psyche's by our societies.
